The presentation aims to provide information on the clinical profession of Music Therapy, a healthcare profession registered under Arts Therapy at the HPCSA. Furthermore, the presentation will offer non-Music Therapists tools to include music in their clinical practise. The sessions will be information-based but largely practical to facilitate experiential learning. The content will be trauma-informed as well as culturally appropriate. Although the content of this presentation is client-focused, the experiential nature will offer clinicians tools for self-care. It is well documented that healthcare professionals experience high levels of burn-out and carer fatigue. The experientials aim to benefit the professional as well as their clients.
Outcomes include:
1. Deepen knowledge of the clinical profession of Music Therapy, in order to refer appropriate clients
2. Deepen knowledge on how/who/when to include music in own clinical practise
3. Understand and experience the neuro-biological as well as the biopsychosocial effect of music.
4. How to include music in self-care rituals
Participants will experience the use of music as a clinical resource when working with individuals or in groups. The resources will be trauma-informed and address cultural appropriateness.
The content will provide information on the profession and scope of Music Therapy. Non-Music Therapists will be made aware of how they are allowed to include music IN therapy within their scope of practise.
