Functional neurologic disorder (FND), previously known as Conversion disorder, refers to a neurological condition caused by network changes in the brain. FND symptoms are not intentional, and can often involve any part of a person’s body. It can also happen that symptoms appear suddenly, intensify with attention, and decrease with distraction. FND can manifest in a number of symptoms, for example, functional seizures, motor problems, cognitive problems, pain, dizziness, speech problems, vision or hearing problems and fatigue. These symptoms interfere directly on a person’s functioning and ADL’s. To date the exact cause of FND is unknown.
