As Selekman (1997) noted, it is rare to hear stories of botched treatment at workshops or to read about therapeutic failures. We speak of our grand interventions; we write of our magical moments. But the truth is that therapy particularly with children and adolescents, is rarely a tidy affair. Talking to our colleagues one theme often submerge; boys and therapy make an odd and uneasy couple. This poor fit can perpetuate treatment failure and lead to therapists making erroneous conclusions about boys, particularly that they are resistant, unemotional and unmotivated to change.
